Ezio Tarantelli Annual Prize won by Stefania Marcassa

Stefania Marcassa has just won the Ezio Tarantelli Annual Prize for the best paper presented at the Italian Association of Labour Economics.

Her paper Migration, Social Change, and the Early Decline in the United States Fertility studies the fertility transition in the U.S. in the 19th century. She studies the links between internal migration and fertility in the U.S. She finds that outmigration, towards the Eastern frontier reduces fertility by affecting transfer and support within families. This change in economic condition affects in return fertility decisions. Migration decisions therefore impacted both the receiving counties and the origin counties.

Congrats Stefania !
