Highlights from the REGINEQ Workshop at CY Cergy Paris University

On April 27, 2026, Grégory Verdugo organized the REGINEQ Workshop at CY Cergy Paris University. The event marked the successful conclusion of the ANR-funded project “National and Regional Income Inequalities: Harmonization and Analysis of Data from Multiple Countries.”

The workshop served as a key moment to present the project’s main findings and contributions. At its core, REGINEQ addressed a major challenge in empirical economics: how to measure and compare income inequalities across countries and regions using harmonized datasets. By developing consistent methodologies and aligning heterogeneous data sources, the project provided new tools for producing more reliable and comparable indicators of inequality.

Bringing together both project collaborators and external researchers, the event fostered rich academic exchange on the measurement of inequalities. Presentations highlighted recent advances in the use of international datasets, methodological innovations, and the limits of existing statistical frameworks. The discussions also emphasized how improved measurement can inform public policy and deepen our understanding of economic disparities.

A central theme of the workshop was the importance of examining inequalities not only at the national level but also across regions within countries. Several contributions showed how national averages can conceal significant territorial disparities, underlining the need for more granular analyses.

A website hosting the Regional Inequality Database produced by the researchers of the project will be live soon.
