L’IA et l’emploi – Grégory Verdugo

Grégory Verdugo, professor at CYU and member of the THEMA has just published a new book in French about AI and employment. The book has been covered by Le Monde and Gregory recently gave a long interview about it.

Summary: Artificial intelligence is already part of people’s everyday lives. Its actual or imagined applications seem limitless, especially since it belongs to the exceptional category of new technologies for general use, i.e. capable of spreading across all sectors of the economy. While its spread revives fears that technical progress will lead to an unprecedented employment crisis, it also hints at a new industrial revolution which, like previous ones, will free humanity from tedious chores and enrich it.In fact, in many activities, it already gives machines the ability to replace workers. This replacement is not without danger. AI risks amplifying discrimination that already exists in our societies. It also provides excessive means of monitoring employees. In order to gain a more detailed understanding of the effects of AI on employment, this book summarises the latest work by economists on this transformation that is already underway
